1. Introduction

1.1 Background

While Coventry University earned its University status in 1992, its story began in 1843. The College of Design and the School of Art were the first few faculties to be built. In 1940, the Coventry Blitz destroyed much of the city and the School of Art. Yet, the city and its community chose “forgiveness, reconciliation, and peace.“

Since then, Coventry has become the City of Peace and Reconciliation for its efforts against violence. As a reminder of the event, the university has also adopted the city’s spirit and the identity of the “Phoenix.” Some of the present humanitarian efforts continuing this legacy are

Vice Chancellor’s Scholarships

– GBP 1,000 (Undergraduate) or GBP 3,000 (Postgraduate)  will be deducted from the first-year fees – For applicants commencing full-time at Coventry University and Coventry University London in July or September 2024. – Applicants must have received a conditional offer and accepted their offer. – Applicants must be self-funded and pay international/ overseas tuition fees.

Humanities and Social Sciences has a strong presence in Coventry University’s DNA.

Firstly, the University is in Coventry, a.k.a. the City of Peace and Reconciliation. Why? Despite the destruction, the community showed forgiveness and the will to end violence. This spirit motivated students, graduates, and even companies to do the same. Among them are

Coventry University’s Delia Derbyshire building is the perfect playground to share and test your ideas. It has

Out of ideas? Be inspired by your peers! They used their expertise to tell meaningful stories and drive change. Among them are

• Leroy Da Silva. His work followed the life of young people living in low-income areas.
• Zynab Sadik. Her documentary film told her father’s story as he fled the Gulf War in Iraq.
• Haus of Kraft. A community project highlighting sustainable fashion and how fast fashion affects the environment.
• Lucy Pearce. She published her illustrated storybook to help youngsters cope with mental health.
• Chloe Hollingsworth. She led a scheme to motivate future generations to pursue a creative career, specifically in fashion design.

Business and Management Studies

In the subject of ‘change’, we must dive into Coventry University’s business and management studies. They come with access to facilities that inspire ideas and boost employability, including

• the Trading Floor. This is the home of Bloomberg Terminals and financial software.
• the DigiComm Lab. It houses industry-standard marketing and advertising software.
• the Business Simulation Suite. It has skill-based training, simulation games, role-play activities and modern technologies.

In addition, the University teaches you how to use knowledge for the common good. Take the Marketing degree as an example. It has a module that shows ways of making marketing eco-friendly. As such, you explore other methods of applying what you learned while adding value to the world!
